After 12 years of running my own successful Income Tax consultancy, I came to the realisation that if one is to be happy in life we need to follow our hearts and our dreams. I was not feeling fulfilled and certainly not following my dreams! As a result I went back to studying and became a qualified Counselling Psychologist. Since then I have not looked back. I am passionate about other people and the stories of their lives. I strongly believe that most people just need a small push in the right direction and they will be able to climb mountains higher than they ever thought possible. With my business expertise and my passion for people, together with my Psychology qualification, I am well positioned to offer you an excellent strategy to improve the overall well-being, and therefore profitability, of your company.
I want to touch people’s lives, in a positive way that they will never forget. By doing so, they will, in turn, be able to touch the lives of others. The dominoes are being set in motion on a daily basis – just watch their widespread effect! This quote by Mother Teresa has profound significance for my approach to the life-work that I do: “I have found the paradox that if I love until it hurts, then there is no hurt, but only more love”.
“There is only one way in which one can endure man’s inhumanity to man and that is to try, in one’s own life, to exemplify man’s humanity to man” (Alan Paton). I am inspired by being the best that I can be, doing the work that I believe God has always planned for me. I am also inspired by the amazing people that I meet in my life, their courage, kindness and commitment to others.
Is something I love – every minute of it, no matter how hectic it may become, I feel that I am finally doing something that is deeply meaningful to others, after many years of feeling that something was ‘missing’ in my life.
Living in South Africa
My country is a beautiful place, with beautiful people, many of whom are hurting in some way as a result of our history. I feel privileged to be here at this time, in a position where, through my own small contribution, I may be able to ease some of the sadness and pain, and to help people to journey towards wholeness and happiness in their lives, both at home and at work. At the same time, this is an exciting place to be, with so much potential for growth, change and new beginnings – let us embrace it and see where it takes us!
One of my strongest beliefs is that we are all born with a unique God-given purpose. Although this is not presented to us in script format, we carry it in our psyche and are perpetually pulled towards this purpose. For me, this has been helping people. From as early as I can remember, I have yearned to follow a “helping profession”. However, I spent 10 years working in the banking sector and a further nine years in the waste management field. During this time I worked as a volunteer Lay Counsellor for a Crisis Centre in Pinetown. This phase of my life gave me ample opportunity to apply my passion. As a result, I gained an appreciation for the personal struggles that impinges on people’s work performance and general happiness, which not only affected their sense of worth but their quality of life. However, there were limitations to the impact of my helping role as a colleague and as a volunteer counsellor in my community. As a result, I went back to studying full-time and qualified as a Psychologist in my mature years. As a qualified psychologist, with an Industrial Psychology Honours degree, I have worked as Human Resource Consultant at Mzansi Debt Counselling, training staff in soft skills, developing policies and facilitating team building events, before starting a private practice.
Through my private practice, consulting work and The Domino Effect the aim is co-journeying with people as they walk closer towards a fulfilling life. Through The Domino effect, I am able to help people focus on their wellbeing, which in turn unlocks their full potential to positively affect those around them.
Seeing people living the life God created them to live and continuing to make that the focus of their life. I strongly believe that the happiness of the rest of my life ‘s journey is made richer by the opportunities to be a fellow traveller with others in their own life trajectory, with a keen focus on engendering feelings of purpose, hope, worth and potential for growth.
My work is my mission to fulfil my God-given purpose. I look forward to each day with an expectancy to help, support and inspire.
Living in South Africa
I love the diversity of my country – both its people and natural environment. Having travelled bit internationally, there is no doubt in my mind that we live in the most beautiful country on earth. A country filled with possibilities. Allow me to name a few. Possibilities to;
– heal from our individual, familial, social and political past
– forgive and appreciate each other’s gifts
– accept own and each other’s limitations
– share in the joy of working and living together as we fulfil our individual life purposes
